The Korean Foot and Ankle Society (KFAS) began its academic activities by holding an inaugural meeting and academic conference on July 26, 1991, under the name of the Korean Society of Foot Surgery. The name of the society was changed to the Korean Foot and Ankle Society on June 15, 2004, and it continues to hold biannual academic conferences, various symposiums, and training courses. It publishes quarterly journals, beginning with the publication of the first Journal of the Korean Foot and Ankle Society in 1997, and it is a member of the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences.
Internationally, KFAS is a member of the Asian Federation of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (AFFAS) and the International Federation of Foot and Ankle Societies (IFFAS). As of 2023, Mr. Jin Woo Lee of Yonsei University serves as the president of the IFFAS.
The society now boasts the membership of over 600 specialists who are actively engaged in academic exchanges and external activities.
